Dear Member
I would like to take this opportunity to notify all members of the continuous improvements we have recently made and more importantly of the changes we will make in 2014.
Recently we have replaced 17 pieces of cardio equipment in the gym which prepares us for the new year fitness rush. We have also upgraded the bar furniture within the family area which has been well received.
Artificial courts 3, 4, and 5 are now floodlit but they have suffered from flooding during heavy rain. The problem has now been identified - the sand will have to be removed and replaced as the manufacturers were supplied with the wrong sand! The courts will be out of action for around seven days so the work will take place in Spring once all the clay courts are back in action.
In 2014 we will also be replacing artificial courts 1 and 2 and resurfacing indoor courts 1, 2, 3, and 4. I am currently looking at all options and with the work being scheduled for summer I would welcome any views from tennis members who have played on courts elsewhere. As normal it will be impossible to please everyone but we will attempt to keep the majority happy.
It is important for members to know that the squash and tennis players have user groups who review member issues relating to these sports. The last tennis group met on 6th November - they heavily discussed a fair way of allocating our limited indoor courts. It was felt that indoor court allocation should be restricted to phone bookings (this prevents local people having an advantage) and only one booking allowed per phone call. The allocation of indoor courts is a problem encountered by all successful clubs and I would welcome your comments on these proposals.
In the meantime, I would like to wish you all a very happy festive season and we look forward to welcoming you to the club for one of our festive social events later this month.
